Ember: Fire and Wind
Known locally as the River of Noisome Hues, the Sheni River forms a natural barrier between the Deadlands and the more-hospitable lands to the Northwest. Even in areas where the waters are relatively still, the more-dangerous creatures in the Deadlands never cross.
The river has multiple sources in the mountains to the Southwest, where the waters pick up sand and silt. As the river continues Northeast, the silt and sand eventually settle, leaving the Sheni a dark blue color. At the Worm Bridge, the river develops a high salinity from the area, and the color shifts from blue to purple to dark red. At the Blood Marshes, the waters of the Sheni spread out in reds and browns. After the marshes have taken out most of the salt, plants and other greenery line the river, all the way to Confluence, where the people use the river for irrigation. The silt and runoff from the fields darken the river once again, and the muddy waters persist for many miles past the city.
